Why this course

Love is the easy part. Life is the plot twist.

Bills, busy calendars, family expectations, and the everyday weight of navigating racism — it all comes home with you. START Together™ is built for BIPOC couples who want to face that pressure as a team instead of against each other.

01

Research-backed tools

Built on Tamara's START Framework™, with skills drawn from attachment-based (EFT-informed) and PREP couples research. Practical, not fluffy.

02

Culturally grounded

We talk honestly about how external factors impact a relationship's internal connection and intimacy.

03

Practise, don't just listen

Every week you try the skill with your partner, with Tamara walking the room to coach you.

Good questions

FAQ

Do we have to share our business with the whole group?

No. Relationship privacy is very important to us. Before the course starts, we meet with each couple privately for an interview. This helps us understand your dynamic and shape the content so it's relevant to you, without singling out any couple in the group. Practice time is just between you and your partner, and group sharing is always optional.

Is this the same as couples therapy?

It's a group format, with elements of couples therapy woven throughout. Every intervention comes from research-based modalities that specialize in supporting couples. If you'd also like one-on-one support, Tamara sees couples privately too.

Will my insurance cover it?

Many extended health plans cover group psychotherapy with an RSW or Psychotherapist. Because each partner is billed separately, you can each claim on your own plan. Check with your provider before registering.

Can this be directly billed?

If your insurance covers it, we can bill them directly. However, not all insurance companies offer direct billing. Please check with your provider before signing up to be sure.

Is this right for us if things feel really rough right now?

This course is best for couples who feel safe with each other and want to grow. A group format isn't the right fit if there's intimate partner violence, active substance use or addiction, or a crisis in the relationship. In those situations, other support should come first. Please reach out privately, and we'll help you find the right support.

How many couples will be there?

A maximum of 8 couples, so it stays personal and Tamara can coach everyone.

Where is it held?

Near Bayview & Sheppard in Toronto, Ontario. The exact location is shared with couples once they register.
